TEA FOR YOU, TEA FOR ME

Sunday, July 26, 2009

Tea hostess Renee Rivera and her tea cups are always on the go.

Her passion business, Traveling Tea Party, brings the tradition of afternoon tea to your home (or wherever you wish) in a fun and unique way. By pairing the ritual of tea with the playtime of dress-up, Traveling Tea Party adds flair to the experience for little girls and convenience for parents.

Each tea party features a chest of gowns, costumes, and vintage accessories such as hats scarves, boas, jewelry, and shoes. Renee also provides make-up and hair – even tiaras – to complete the glamorous fun. Over the years, she has discovered that the prom theme is a big hit among girls, even more so than being Disney princess characters.

Renee believes in creating such an authentic experience that she even allows the girls to enjoy their teas in real china. Along with a variety of leaves, the menu includes savory heart- and flower-shaped sandwiches and mini sugar cookies.

Renee lovingly packs and carries her tea cups to every event. She does so not just on Oahu but even to the neighbor islands. Once, when she flew to the Big Island, she recalls with a laugh, “You should have seen the security guys scanning my suitcase. I was the one scrutinizing them to make sure they didn’t break anything!”

While originally designed with little girls in mind, traveling tea parties are now available for grown-ups. To no surprise, her customer base has expanded to brides and expecting mothers. What started as a small mother-daughter venture five years ago has evolved into a full service event planning business. With her daughter off to college now, Renee continues to nurture her success with good friend, Dina Cornwall.

Basic packages start with eight guests but can be larger. Deluxe tea party packages include personalized invitations, manicures, favors, and cupcakes.

To book your tea party or for more information, check out www.travelingteaparty.com or call Renee at 258-9849.
